I hope to use this blog as an outlet for the wonderful music I listen to. I want more people to know of the incredible talent that is out there. Predominantly, I love metal, but I'm not completely "genre-ist": if there is a good talent I've experienced, been introduced to, or simply heard of, they will be on here. Hope you all find some new music and even introduce me to new music!
Ancient Bards debuted their first album in 2010, which is just the beginning of a trilogy about defeating an evil overlord named "Sendor" who has obtained the black crystal sword; whomever wields this doomed sword has knowledge of all magic and an incomprehensible power. Total nerd-lore.
Very powerful female vocals over the entire album and melodic instrumentals that fit the genre absolutely perfectly. The Alliance of Kings does an amazing job of inciting a necessity to band together and begin a war! I'm very excited to hear new material from the band. Here is the second track from the album, where a man named Dorus alerts the King of the West, Daltor, about Sendor's finding of the sword. I can feel my friends defriending me from Facebook as we speak!
First the official video
The full song from the album, including guitar/bass solos!
If you have the willpower to restrain yourself from dancing when you hear this song, you must be a plant. Marcus Miller busting out the thickest bass all over "Blast". I'm posting the studio version and a live version. Both are simply AHH! Thanks to John for this one (although you showed me a while ago).
A macabre, yet beautiful song, "Death Come Near Me" is the first song of Draconian's that I listened to. They portray death as a romance yearned for while maintaining the gruesome feeling of a dark death. Thanks goes to Franklin:
Draconian - "Death Come Near Me" lyrics
By day I sleep, at night I weep
Oh Death, come near me
Be the one for me, be the one (the one) who stays.
My rivers are frozen, and mischosen,
And the shadows around me sickens my heart.
Oh Death, come near me
and stay (by my side).
Hear my silent (my silent) cry!
In sadness I'm veiled, to the cross I am nailed
And the pain around me freezes my world.
My cold world...
In life I've failed
For years I've wailed.
Frozen in time... left behind...
The rapture of grief is all to find...
The rapture of grief is all.
Behind the shadow of life the lost hopes are grieving.
I seek the night and hope to find love...
So I drown in the silence of lives short eternity.
The tears fills the void in my heart astray...
Embrace me now, delightful ease...
Give me a world of wondrous peace..
Calm the desperate scream in my heart.
Oh Death, come near me,
save me from this empty, cold world
Oh Life, you have killed me,
so spare me from this cauldron of misery
In life I cry, away I fly...
Chosen to fall within these walls.
The rapture of grief is all to find
The rapture of grief is all...
Oh, shed a tear for the loss of innocence,
For the forsaken spirits who aches... (In us).
Cry for the heart who surrenders to pain,
For the solitude of those left behind.
Behold the pain and sorrow of the world,
Dream of a place away from this nightmare.
Give us love and unity under the heart of night.
Oh Death, come near us and give us life! (Life)
I know it's kind of pointless to include lyrics when the video has lyrics in it, but I'm one of those types that like to read lyrics like poetry.
My buddy posted an epic song on my Facebook wall and it's... well... EPIC! I can't find much information on this band, but Magni Animi Viri, a progressive operatic band from Italy (?), is the author of "Heroes Temporis" Video should be below. (I've noticed on some mobile browsers, the video doesn't show up; I would apologize but it's Blogger's fault, haha). The vocalist has a nice, powerful opera voice and the rest of the band sounds like something I'd want hear when marching to my impending death in battle (haha). Thanks to Jondair Aignogsooks for the video.
From their genre defining album "Love Metal", HIM (sometimes referred to as His Infernal Majesty) brings us their alluring sounds of a lost soul heading toward a bleak future, where his love is continually denied in what I like to call their own triumphant "Stairway to Heaven" (although MUCH better in my opinion). "The Path" is both inspiring and dismal, painting an image of a poor, lonely heart grieving its way down "this unending path".
HIM - "The Path" Lyrics
There is no turning back from this unending path of mine
Serpentine and black it stands before my eyes
To hell
and back it will lead me once more
It's all i have as i stumble in and out of grace
I walk through the gardens of dying
light
And cross all the rivers deep and dark as the night
Searching for a reason why time would've passed us by
With
every step i take the less i know myself
Every vow i break on my way towards your heart
Countless times I've prayed for
forgiveness
But gods just laugh at my face
And this path remains
Leading me into solitude's arms
I see through the
darkness my way back home
The journey seems endless but I'll carry on
The shadows will rise and they will fall
And our
night drowns in dawn
Amidst all tears there's a smile
That all angels greet with an envious song
One look into stranger's
eyes and i know where i belong
And the path goes on...
Some of the best of modern folk music can be attributed to Mumford and Sons. This song reminds me of the changing of the seasons as the "Winter Winds" make their way to us. Enjoy!
Mumford and Sons - "Winter Winds" lyrics
As the winter winds litter London with lonely hearts
Oh the warmth in your eyes swept me into your arms
Was it love or fear of the cold that led us through the night?
For every kiss your beauty trumped my doubt
And my head told my heart
"Let love grow"
But my heart told my head
"This time no
This time no"
We'll be washed and buried one day my girl
And the time we were given will be left for the world
The flesh that lived and loved will be eaten by plague
So let the memories be good for those who stay
And my head told my heart
"Let love grow"
But my heart told my head
"This time no"
Yes, my heart told my head
"This time no
This time no"
Oh the shame that sent me off from the God that I once loved
Was the same that sent me into your arms
Oh and pestilence is won when you are lost and I am gone
And no hope, no hope will overcome
And if your strife strikes at your sleep
Remember spring swaps snow for leaves
You'll be happy and wholesome again
When the city clears and sun ascends
And my head told my heart
"Let love grow"
But my heart told my head
"This time no"
And my head told my heart
"Let love grow"
But my heart told my head
"This time no
This time no"
